Sony Ericsson M600i - the holy grail? (part I)
The holy grail? Of course not. It's only a phone (and nor am I religious). But indulge me anyway...
It seemed like it was going to be futile looking for a usable phone + pda.
Yeh, there are Blackberry's, Treo's, xda's but they look awful (apart from the Pearl), and with BBs you have to pay extra charges for push email. While a proper qwerty is great its impact on the phone size is a high price to pay. And those slide out qwerty's are a pain as they can't be used single-handed for quick texting.
The m600i however, has a cool phone factor size and a nice touch-sensitive screen, with a good keyboard (learning curve of course, and takes getting used to if you've got big fingers).
In the UK, with T-Mobile webnwalk, it's the nearest thing of having the web in your pocket.
Still early days for any kind of proper review, but will post as my use progresses.

Hi I'm looking at the same deal but wondered, did you have to buy the GPS to get a black one?
Hows the keyboard? Does the rocker idea work?
Are there any serious bugs still? (once firmware has been updated)
Thanks,
Simon.
Hi Simon
Not sure about the Black version. As far as I know, T-Mobile in UK do one colour which is branded with their logo. On the T-Mobile website, the phone colour is a yukky milky white. But the actual colour is a darkish grey which IMO looks good, with a middle band lightish silver. Overall looks are 'professional' (and refreshingly different from black)
Keyboard: You want a positive pressing action which indicates you've chosen the correct letter. Even with the usual T9 system you know this is how to use it. But the rocker switch does require added dexterity, and if you've got large fingers then it is tricky. More than just a learning curve, but my errors are getting less so I guess it does work. But not as easy as a full-sized blackberry.
The predictive text on the m600i is actually quite smart and once you learn where the ok button is, typing speeds up. I reckon overall the k/b is better than T9 input but takes much longer to learn. Also possible to do 2-handed typing.
Not had any problems with software/bugs. It's easy to update with a pc.
The m600i isn't as fast as say a K800i, but it does it a lot more. Though if you like turning off your phone, the m600i takes forever booting up!
